
I finally broke down and purchased an air fryer. And I gotta tell you— BEST purchase of the year! Well, now that I’m thinking about it— it’s a toss up between the air fryer and the water circus tickets my sister and I randomly purchased.
What the hell is a water circus?
Yea, no idea. Anyhow, back to the air fryer. I pretty much purchased this air fryer for the chicken wings. I LOVE chicken wings. What I don’t love, is all the trans fat they’re fried in. Plus, have you ever looked inside an industrial fry vat? Woof!
This recipe makes the CRISPIEST air fried chicken wings. Honestly, these are the BEST wings I’ve ever had— no exaggeration!
Wanna know the secret to SUPER crispy chicken wings?
Clearly it’s not the oil, because these little beauts are fried in air. Certainly, it’s not dependent on the brand— I used a low-budget fryer— and it got the job done.*
The secret is in the seasoning.
Any seasoning will do. Choose whatever flavors you like— lemon pepper, mesquite, garlic parmesan— no problem. Now, depending upon the amount of seasoning you’re using, you’re going to match that with a half portion of baking powder (not baking soda— baking soda will make your chicken extremely salty). For example, when using one tablespoon of seasoning, add 1/2 tablespoon baking powder to the mix. Baking powder helps pull moisture from the skin (without drying out the meat).
*I would advise investing in a higher-quality air fryer. The air fryer I’m working with is budget friendly, and works well. However, the fry cage is tiny and the appliance itself is bulky.

Air Fried Mesquite Chicken Wings
Yield: 5-10 wings / Serving size: 5 wings / Prep time: 5 min / Cook time: 27 minutes*

*The cook time could vary depending upon size of wings and desired crispiness. I’ve selected fat wings. And I like them extra crispy.
Ingredients
- 5-10 raw, organic chicken wings
- Avocado oil (for greasing)
- 1 tsp Granular Swerve
- 1 Tbsp Brown Swerve
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt
- 1/2 tsp smoked chipotle powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
*If you choose to purchase a pre-packaged mesquite seasoning, be aware of sugar and carb counts. If you’re not worried about keepin’ it keto, I’d recommend Twist’D Q Sweet Mesquite Seasoning— SO good!

Instructions
Mesquite (Keto) Seasoning
- Mix all ingredients (except chicken and oil) until fully combined.
Chicken Wings
- Thaw chicken. Rinse. Pat dry.
- Roll chicken in seasoning until generously covered.
- Grease air fryer with avocado oil or butter.
- Gently place wings in fryer. Be sure to leave space in between for proper cooking.
- Cook for 20 minutes at 410°, or 22 minutes at 400°.*
*For extra crispy wings, add 5 additional minutes.
Pair with blue cheese or ranch dressing. I’ve taken my Homemade Blue Cheese and mixed in some local Gator Hammock Hot Sauce. Yummmm!!!
