Spicy and savory, with a hint of smoke. Pairs perfectly with Crispy Chicken Wings, Air Fried Zucchini, or crab cakes (stay tuned for next week’s post on Blue Lump Crab Cakes).

I’m a sauce person.
Sauces often dictate whether or not I make a return visit to a particular restaurant. For example, the Umami Burger Sauce at True Foods Kitchen. Have you experienced it? Cue the drool.
What is Aioli?
Aioli is a popular condiment in many regions of the Mediterranean including France, Italy, and Spain. But it’s not just a European thing anymore. Over the years, this savory sauce has made its way into the American household as well.
Traditionally, aioli is made with a combination of garlic, egg yolk, oil, and lemon juice— so it’s basically a sophisticated mayonnaise.

How to Make Smoked Chipotle Aioli
If you plan on making a Homemade Mayo base than you’ll need an immersion blender. Otherwise, a whisk will work just fine. If you’re short on time, using store-bought mayonnaise will allow you to whip up this sauce in about a minute flat!
Smoked Chipotle Aioli involves adding a half squeeze of fresh lemon juice, 3 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream, 1 teaspoon dijon mustard, and a dash of smoked chipotle seasoning to a half cup of mayonnaise. Once the ingredients have been added, all you’ve got to do is whisk them together. It’s honestly that easy!
Will Any Mayonnaise Do?
The brand of mayonnaise you choose will certainly have an effect on the flavor of your aioli. For example, Hellmans will ensure a saltier finish. Whereas Miracle Whip will sweeten your final product. Beyond that, the brand of mayo also determines whether your aioli will be considered a healthy or unhealthy fat.
For the most part, any mayonnaise containing the following oils can be categorized as unhealthy.
Unhealthy Oils (high in PUFAs)
- Canola oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Rapeseed oil
- Soybean oil
- Sunflower oil
- Vegetable oil
Alternatively, any mayonnaise containing the following oils can be categorized as healthy.
Healthy Oils (high in SFAs)
- Avocado oil
- Coconut oil
- MCT oil
- Olive oil

Notes
I’ve selected the brand, Chosen Foods (Classic Keto Mayo with MCT Oil). However, if you have difficulty finding this brand (and aren’t up for making your own), here are a few additional store-bought options: Primal Kitchen Mayo with Avocado Oil or Coconaise Coconut Oil Mayonnaise.
Purchasing organic dairy ensures your product is free of antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic pesticides or GMO’s.
You’re welcome to use another brand of chipotle seasoning other than Frontier. I’m partial to this brand due to its mild smokey flavor.
If you’ve chosen to make homemade mayonnaise, prepare the mayo prior to adding additional aioli ingredients.

Smoked Chipotle Aioli
Awesome recipe even though had to make it dirty with Hellmans and Grey Poupon. Used as dip for steamed gulf shrimp. Just right amount of heat; I didn’t need to down a Porter to put the flames out. Drizzled over egg and shrimp omelet for breakfast next day. Very versatile!

That actually sounds amazing! Hellmans and all— I’m here for it!
