Slightly tart and lightly sweetened— this homemade blueberry jam is not only the tastiest, it’s also the EASIEST!

With blueberry season in full effect, I’m taking advantage by incorporating this keto-approved superfruit into as many recipes as possible. Last week it was a complicated Keto Blueberry Crumble Pie, this week I’m keeping it simple with easy Blueberry Jam.
What makes blueberries superfruit?
Superfruit is a term that’s been cropping up throughout the nutritional world and within our grocery store. The term is generally attached to exotic fruits such as açai berries, maqui berries, chokeberries, goji berries, lingonberries, blueberries— we’re talking a lot of berries here— but the list doesn’t end there. There are also some non-berries that have made the list. Fruits such as pitayas, pomegranates, and mangosteens have also been deemed “superfruit.”
But what makes a fruit super?
Honestly, it could just be a marketing term promoting us to pay more for fruit that contains— well, nutrients. But the claim is that superfruits contain very high amounts of antioxidants. I favor superfruits because they tend to be higher in nutrients and lower in sugar (especially if you’re sticking to the berry community).
Not Sure What to Do with this Jam?
You could use it as pancake topping, or jazz up your Monte Cristo— but my personal favorite is to spread Keto Crackers with goat or cream cheese and then add a dollop of blueberry jam. It’s a perfect way to silence a little sweet tooth without undoing your whole day’s work.

Keto Blueberry Jam
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 Cups 1x
- Diet: Vegan
Description
Slightly tart and lightly sweetened. This homemade blueberry jam is not only the tastiest, it’s also the EASIEST!
Ingredients
- 1 pint (2 cups) fresh blueberries, rinsed
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Swerve Granular*
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 fresh lemon squeeze
- 1/2 tsp xanthan gum*
- 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Wash the blueberries and place them in a medium-size saucepan.
- Add the following ingredients to saucepan: water, Swerve, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Place burner on high heat and bring to a rolling boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and begin slowly whisking in xanthan gum (1/8 teaspoon at a time).*
- After all the xanthan gum has been added, continue to cook for another 5 minutes, whisking frequently.
- Remove from heat and allow time to cool (at least 5 minutes).* As the sauce cools it will thicken into a jam consistency.
- Store in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Notes
You’re welcome to use a different keto-friendly sweetener such as monk fruit or stevia. Just be sure to use a granular form.
If you’d prefer a thicker consistency, you can always up the amount of xanthan gum. However, keep in mind, the sauce will thicken once removed from the heat (and you don’t want to add more xanthan gum after the sauce has fully cooled).
It’s important to add the xanthan gum slowly and whisk continuously while adding. If not, the xanthan gum could clump and disrupt the texture and consistency of the jam.
The longer you allow the sauce to cool, the thicker it will become. Placing it in the fridge will speed up the thickening process. 5 minutes is all you need in order to reach its final consistency.
